TERMS: Contract
SCOPE OF WORK
• Hire, train, mentor, and manage one or more Software Engineering teams (5–15 engineers), including onshore and offshore resources
• Establish and enforce best practices across the full software development lifecycle — architecture, build, test, deploy, and maintain
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and drive engineering standards across the team
• Organize technical work, break down requirements, and guide teams through execution
• Support technical interviews and evaluate engineering talent
• Manage the sourcing of technical resources, leveraging off-site/off-shore resources where appropriate
• Own team composition, capacity planning, and resource allocation across engineering workstreams
• Drive hiring strategy, onboarding, and career development for engineers on the team
• Manage performance, provide regular feedback, and cultivate a high-performing engineering culture
• Coordinate onshore and offshore resources to maximize delivery velocity and quality
• Partner with delivery and product leadership to align engineering capacity with business demand and pipeline of work
• Define and drive the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the product area's technical architecture across every layer of the stack
• Identify opportunities for platform improvements, technical debt reduction, and scalability investments
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, patterns, and practices that advance the engineering organization
• Align engineering strategy with broader Digital Engineering goals and technology direction
• Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural health and sustainability
• Strong hands-on experience across the full stack — backend (Java, Spring Boot, microservices), web (Angular and/or React), and mobile (native iOS/Android and/or React Native)
• Solid understanding of Docker/containers and Kubernetes with Kustomize
• Proficiency with GitOps workflows (Argo CD) and CI/CD across services, web, and mobile
• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka and messaging patterns
• Experience with Couchbase and NoSQL database design and operations
• Understanding of distributed systems, eventual consistency, and reactive programming patterns
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end features — from backend services through web and/or mobile clients
• Background building customer-facing, large-scale, enterprise-level technology solutions across every layer of the stack
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement) to ensure overall engineering progress aligns with roadmaps and timelines
• Act as the engineering point of accountability for a product area, with visibility across all technology layers
• Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers across services, web, mobile, and content engineering; escalate proactively
• Know when to engage subject matter experts for deep specialization within a layer (e.g., AEM, native platform internals) and facilitate cross-layer collaboration
• Ensure that teams are delivering against product owner goals and business priorities
• Act as the technical liaison between engineering teams and business/functional stakeholders
• Present technical concepts, status updates, project plans, and escalations to senior leadership with clarity and confidence
• Manage third-party vendors and hold partners accountable for quality and delivery commitments
• Participate in requirements-gathering sessions and translate functional needs into technical deliverables
• Collaborate with Scrum and Release Managers to ensure on-time, on-schedule delivery
• Ensure appropriate quality processes are in place to deliver high-quality applications in compliance with all regulatory requirements
• Ensure systems are stable and performing per SLAs, in collaboration with Platform & Operations
• Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence
• Stay current with backend, web, mobile, distributed systems, and cloud-native technology trends
• Evaluate emerging technologies, patterns, and practices for potential adoption across the engineering organization
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and technical growth across teams
REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
• 7+ years of software development/engineering experience
• 3+ years of experience leading engineers and managing engineering teams
• Strong hands-on full-stack engineering background spanning backend (Java, Spring Boot, microservices), web (Angular/React), and mobile (native iOS/Android and/or React Native)
• Solid understanding of Docker/containers and Kubernetes + Kustomize
• Proficiency with GitOps workflows and Argo CD
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture
• Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL databases
• Proven experience delivering end-to-end features across backend, web, and mobile
• Strong preference for candidates who can flex across every technology layer to unblock delivery wherever the team needs it
• Experience building customer-facing, large-scale, or complex technology solutions
• Proven ability to manage teams, plan resources, and drive long-term technical strategy
• Strong end-to-end accountability and a track record of taking delivery fully to completion
• Solid experience working with offshore teams and driving work through closure across distributed teams
• Scope control and management
• Experience managing offshore engineering teams and coordinating across time zones
PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
• Experience with GraphQL and API gateway architecture (Apigee or equivalent)
• Experience with reactive programming (WebFlux, Project Reactor) and non-blocking I/O
• Familiarity with content management platforms (e.g., AEM) as a content source
